Anthill cake with honey. It is a traditional Lithuanian dessert made from thin strips of dough fried in oil, which are then glued together and covered with fragrant honey. The crispy texture of the dough goes well with the sticky sweetness, and the poppies on the surface resemble small "ants". This dessert is often served during holidays, because it brings coziness to the table and evokes nostalgic memories.
Preparation
Beat the eggs with salt and vanilla sugar.
Add the melted or soft butter and honey, mix well to make a smooth mixture.
Mix the flour with the baking powder and carefully fold into the egg-butter-honey mixture until you get an elastic dough.
Divide the dough into several parts, roll out thinly and cut into small pieces (e.g., strips).
Mix the baked (or cooked in oil) dough pieces with the hot honey-sugar syrup so that all the pieces are covered with syrup.
Form a cake ("ant hill") - place the pieces in a mold or on a plate, press so that they stick to each other.
Leave it cold (in the refrigerator) for several hours or overnight to make the cake firm.
Before serving, sprinkle with poppy seeds (0.300 kg), if using.
